My sister and I had been over every little thing that had happened, then I’d told my dad the bullet points. I couldn’t remember a time when we’d all cried together, but it happened and, somehow, it had been cleansing.

It didn’t make it easy for them to let me go back home three days later, but it was the most I could take away from River. We’d started messaging excessively, and he was a damn tease via text.

Also, it wouldn’t get better the longer I stayed away. I needed to face my room, my demons, and maybe do what River had suggested and move into one of the other rooms. I’d been a good friend, too, and told Alec to finally move his stuff out, instead of pretending he needed the room when he and Kash were all in now.

I was about to call out to River the moment I stepped into the apartment but choking from his room caused me to drop everything and rush in there. What I found made me freeze in the doorway. He wore the jockstrap he’d bought and was kneeling on his bed with his ass in the air, as if he was waiting for someone, and coughed his lungs out.

I went around the bed, deciding to make sure he could breathe before I commented on his outfit. His face was red, and his eyes nearly bulged out when he spotted me.

“Why… You… Home?” he coughed out, tears streaming down his face.

“Because I don’t work today and was looking forward to seeing you after your mean teasing. What’s going on?” I knelt and wiped at his cheeks, ignoring the fact that his whole collection of toys lay next to him on the bed.

It took him a few more minutes before he stopped coughing, then he slid off the bed and sat next to me on the ground, burying his face in his hands. “This is the most embarrassing thing ever,” he whispered, his voice rough from the coughing.

“I’d call it hot, except for the part where I thought you were choking. What the hell did you swallow?”

River groaned and I combed my fingers through his hair for the sole reason that I could. “Riv?” I prompted after he muttered something.

“It’s embarrassing.”

I moved until I sat next to him, my back resting against his bed, too, and took one of his hands, entwining our fingers. “Well, then I want to know even more.”

He cleared his throat, not meeting my eyes. “Don’t laugh, okay?”

Hell, I knew then and there that I shouldn’t be promising him that, but I did anyway. “Fine.”

He licked his lips, beautiful despite the embarrassment burning on his cheeks. “I found popsicles when I went grocery shopping. They were… You know, like a small dick…”

I bit my cheeks to not say anything or burst out laughing. Instead, I hid my face against my arm, hoping it would ease some of the amusement.

“I thought it was a good way to practice deepthroating without having to worry about…ruining something with how inexperienced I am.
